CROSSROADS the intersection of material, form and function.
inside design joined forces with Wilsonart International and architect Chris
Deam to develop a prototype of an updated version of the aluminum travel
trailer. "We liked the fact that the trailer is a sleek, familiar form,
however, the interiors have never been as beautiful as the shell. We wanted
to make the inside as aesthetically pleasing as the outside," explains Jim
Huff, creative director. "Initially I was interested in updating the trailer
to be more appealing to a younger aesthetic, and then I realized that this
classic shell deserved a complimentary interior, and good, integrated design
appeals to everyone," says Deam.
This project launched at the ICFF 2000 where it was honored with an ICFF Editor's
Award; it also won the 2000 Good Design Award and was the FX Design Award runner-up.
A version of this prototype will be out in the Fall of 2001 through Airstream. More info in the near future.
